ShifD Data Transfer Between PC & Mobile Phone

The New York Times Company has introduced in beta version. ShiftD is an application having the capability to transfer data seamlessly from the computer to a mobile phone or vice-versa.
ShifD allows users to update information from any web browser, by text message from a mobile phone, through a mobile web browser or by using the downloadable application on Adobe AIR.
Information added through any method gets saved to the user’s ShifD account, which gets automatically updated on all devices.
The new ShiftD Beta is capable of adding and saving contents in three categories such as Notes, Links and Places. Hence the application will allow users to save grocery list, to-do list or any other notes. Also it will enable users to save links for references and addresses with corresponding maps too.
“ShifD is an experiment in giving users the power to bring their content with them by easily shifting it among all of their Web-enabled devices,” said Michael Zimbalist, vice president, research and development operations, The New York Times Company.
“We see a future for device-independent media, with convergence around the user experience and not any particular delivery platform. Developing services that allow users to access content wherever they are and on whichever device they choose is an important part of our strategy,” Zimbalist added.
The New York Times is expecting that the new application will work on most of the mobile phones and blackberries in the United States. Interested users can sign up for ShiftD beta at http://ShifD.com.

Concept Phone: Nokia Reseach Center & Cambridge Univ. Develops "Morph"

Nokia Research Center (NRC) and the University of Cambridge (UK) has announced the development of Morph, a concept mobile phone. What is innovative about the phone is that it is flexible and bendable.

Nokia says that the new phone is an example of how future mobile devices might be stretchable and flexible, allowing the user to transform their mobile device into radically different shapes. Further, Morph features flexible materials, transparent electronics and self-cleaning surfaces.

Dr. Bob Iannucci, Chief Technology Officer, Nokia, stated, “Nokia Research Center is looking at ways to reinvent the form and function of mobile devices; the Morph concept shows what might be possible”.

“We hope that this combination of art and science will showcase the potential of nanoscience to a wider audience. The research we are carrying out is fundamental to this as we seek a safe and controlled way to develop and use new materials,”commented Dr. Tapani Ryhanen, Head of the NRC Cambridge UK laboratory, Nokia

Morph is a good example of usage of nanotechnology which might lead to offer high-end mobile phones integrate few elements of the concept phone. Also Nokia hopes that the development of Morph will lead to low-cost devices with more functionality and smaller sizes.

Morph will be exhibited at The Museum of Modern Art in New York City from February 24 to May 12, as part of the “Design and the Elastic Mind” exhibition.

Power saving Turbo Battery Technology in MSI new "Anion" Laptop

It looks like MSI has some big plans for CeBIT, if the company's latest news is any indication. The computer-maker is gearing up for two innovative new laptops, both of which are part of its ECOlution "green" line of systems. The first model will bizarrely feature a high concentration of anions -- negatively charged ions which the company believes will "enhance the body's condition, promote nervous stability and recovery from fatigue, and encourage circulation of halted blood." The second, less magical entry from MSI comes in the form of the GX600-08 laptop, which utilizes a new battery design intended to extend life up to 20% by engaging a "Turbo Battery Mode" which automatically adjusts the system's workload to conserve power. We'll undoubtedly be hearing more about these from CeBIT, so keep your eyes peeled.

Zeki Cellphone for Kids Having Walkie-Talkie, SMS, MP3

A company called YoungToys is bringing out a cellphone aimed at kids and toddlers in Korea. The Zeki is a digital walkie-talkie, enabling conversations and short messages exchange between two handsets up to 260 feet apart, as well as MP3 playback and audio/video recording (presumably useful if you're the snooping parent type).

For older kids, probably the Zeki's real targets, there's also alarm clocks and downloadable games. Supposedly the phones use "near-field communication technology" to connect to each other, but since this is usually applied to RFID devices like proximity swipe-cards, we're a little skeptical.

The devices also incorporate an anti-electromagnetic device of some kind, to allay fears of cooking kids' brains, and are made of materials harmless to the human body. Thank goodness for that, we were worried about them being made of cyanide-coated lead.

Actually the most worrying thing about these phones is that clearly kids will be carrying communications devices from a very young age, and that just creeps us out a little. Zekis will be available for around $105 in Korea.

Sony MDR-EX700LP - 16mm Drivers earbud headphones

The updated Sony MDR-EX700LP earbud headphones sport new 16mm drivers to give you ear-drum-shattering action (108dB) with "more precise sound" (4-28KHz) than before. Sony says the magnesium-housed MDR-EX700LP earbuds have a new "multi-layer diaphragm for reproducing high resolution sound." For $300, that better be a lot of layers and a lot of high-res sounds.

Intel 6-Core "Dunnington" Microprocessor Under Planning

According to the chaps at the Eclipse Developer's Journal (EDJ), Intel is planning a six-core microprocessor, which will go by the Dunnington moniker. The six-core beast will be succeeded by the even meatier, Nehalem micro-architecture, which will support greater than eight cores. The work regarding the Dunnington project is still under wraps, but our friends at EDJ insist Intel has already put together a die, the size of a postage stamp, with three dual-core 45nm Penryn chips on it sharing a 16MB L3 cache. Allegedly, we'll see the Dunnington in either Q2 or Q3, this year—we'll be sure to keep you posted on any developments.

When I buy some expensive electronic gadget we are very excited about it but with this excitement we also worried about their best care from scratches etc but after very best of care we don’t fully protect their screen & case from scratches so relating to that today I find a great thing called InvisibleShield. With invisible shield we can protect our precious gadgets from scratches etc. basically invisible protection which is a thin, polyurethane film which is used by military from many years, in Helicopter to protect the edges of their blades, the one and the main characteristic of this polyurethane film that they provide the full protection against the scratches to full body of your gadget. So if you want more info relating to invisibleshield plz check their website or see the invisibleSHIELD video above.

HP 2133 UMPC

HP are launching a seriously nice looking UMPC named the 2133. The screen is just 8.9 inches which is ample for a UMPC and it is scratch resistant. The resolution it runs at is 1366 x 766 (WXGA). An ExpressCard/54 slot can be found in there along with Wireless LAN, a QWERTY keyboard that is not much smaller then normal and a web cam can also be found integrated too. Two operating systems will be available when it launches which gives you the choice between Vista or Linux. On the storage side, it appears that there will be an SSD option which will make the UMPC weigh in at 2.5 LBS. The case looks to also look nice too being anodized aluminium. I wonder how this will do against the MacBook Air and EeePC. Looking at rumours of prices, it looks like it could sell for less then $700. If that’s the case this will be on my wanted list.

Samsung New M310 Ultra Mobile Pocket Imager projector

Samsung's M310 isn't nearly as diminutive as its MBP-100, but it's still quite the cutie. Hailed as an Ultra Mobile Pocket Imager, this DLP device features a 1,000:1 contrast ratio, 150 ANSI lumens, VGA input, SVGA native resolution and a pleasantly small footprint. Mum's the word on an official price / release date, but we've all ideas this is one case where more won't cost less.

PDA/Tablet Concept for Old Peoples

Hey, old people have technological needs too. Or so this concept would have us believe. The idea behind this tablet/pda-ish device is that it uses RFID tracking technology toremind the elderly when to take their meds, when food in the refrigerator goes bad, and what to get at the store to meet nutritional requirements. But if my grandparents' foray into technology is any indication, this device would do nothing but baffle the elderly mind.

Ultra Tough Woongjin PDA with GPS Phone

Woongjin, a company I am not familiar with, have created an ultra-slim mobile phone which has GPS navigation built in to it. Not many details are available yet, but from what we have heard the phone is toughened, waterproof and perfect for those who love outdoor activities. It is built to survive a fall and vibrations which makes it an ideal phone for the outdoors type person. From the outside it looks like a fairly standard piece of kit, but what is noticeable is the screen which seems to be of a PDA size. Under the screen is a standard keypad with directional keys, menu keys and call, hangup buttons. For some reason, a 2D bar code scanner can also be attached although I am unsure what that is needed for.

Stream Mobile TV To Iphone / Ipod Touch Via Wifi

Packet Video's latest Mobile Broadcast Receiver, which looks like a small white box, is able to stream mobile TV to devices with no mobile TV reception capability, such as the iPhone and iPod Touch. It works by receiving DVB-H, MediaFLO or WiMax (depending on the standard for your particular market—Verizon uses MediaFLO) and transcoding it on the fly to a video stream sent out via Wi-Fi. Your device (the one you're actually watching the video on) then grabs the video stream over Wi-Fi and displays it. It'll be available later in the year, but Packet Video usually works with service providers and not directly with the consumer, so your only option may be to buy a branded one.

Turn Your T-shirt In to Nano Power Station With The Help Of Nanowires

A nanotech invention by a US research team offers an intriguing glimpse of the future: slip on some nanowire-embedded clothes, plug your MP3 player or cellphone into them, and as you dance or walk around, your outfit generates enough power to run the gadget. More details on how the fabric works, and some nano-imagery after the jump.

Professor Zhong Lin Wang and team of the Georgia Institute of Technology coated kevlar strands with zinc oxide nanowires, protecting the bushy wires with a polymer and adding gold to other fibers to act as a conductor. The piezoelectric power-generating action comes when the nanowires bend as two fibers rub together, translating bending of the material into electricity which flows along the gold fibers.

Professor Wang says that across several square feet of fabric the nanowire fibers can generate power adding up to tens of milliwatts, which is not a huge amount, but is certainly enough for a dribble top-up charge for your portable devices.

With a little more power, the idea could be great in smart fabrics for consumers, or even for medical or military use, but it's clearly an invention in its infancy—as Wang notes, "What we've done is demonstrate the principle and the fundamental mechanism." For the time being it also has a fundamental flaw: it's not waterproof, and putting your smart clothes in the wash would dissolve the nanowires.

Wireless Networking for Geek Gamers

Gamers hate to see lag on their networks. Lag lowers their chances of becoming champion of their chosen game. To fix this problem, Linksys have created an out of the box Wireless Gaming Router named the WRT330N which is optimised specifically for gamers. Built-in wireless runs up to IEEE 802.11n (draft) speeds and the 4 wired switch ports will allow up to Gigabit Ethernet speeds. These alone should sort out your home network problems. It doesn’t stop there though and Linksys has also added QoS (Quality of Service) which is pre configured to prioritize traffic on ports that are needed for online gaming. This setup ensures that no problems are present on your home network. All you need to then worry about is making sure you have a good enough broadband connection to not get a bottle neck as it leaves the router.

The price tag is a little higher then your average wireless router, but for $159.99 you are getting a top quality wireless gaming router which should see your online gaming experience improved.

Dreambook Eee PC Competitor Enters In The Market

With a 7-inch display (88 x 480), a 1GHz Via C7-M processor, maximum 1GB RAM, either a 2GB, 4GB or 8GB flash storage or a 40GB HDD, the Pioneer Computers Dreambook Light IL1 sounds like a worthy competitor to the Eee PC crown. Unfortunately, the $446 starting price is a little steep, even if either Vista or Ubuntu is included in the base price. The Dreambook range will host three other models, including a touchscreen version that sounds a little more interesting.
The Dreambook Light CE26 will feature a 7-inch touchscreen display, 1.2GHz VIA C7-M processor, maximum 1GB memory and storage capacities similar to the IL1. The base model will be priced at $699, but we're hoping the touch goodness makes it worth the investment.
Two other members in the range include the M72 and the M72R, but with 12" WXGA displays, Intel Core 2 Duo processors, maximum 4GB RAM and starting at $999, they're not really lean enough for Eee PC territory or impressive enough for the general laptop genre.

Solar Charging Strap For Your Mobile Phone

Strap-Ya has accomplished what we thought was impossible; they've created a useful cellphone charm: a small solar cell that retains energy for when your handset is out of juice. Simply clip it in, and it will give you the vital power boost in your second of need. If the sun is playing away from home, the solar charger even comes with an AC adapter that allows it to be charged up and used as a spare battery. Alas, it is merely a concept for us. The charger works with just a handful of Japanese handsets.

Stress Reducing Mouse

Stress is fairly common around the work place with all the tight deadlines and what not. Hours of peoples lives are also spent in front of a computer working away and keeping in touch with the world. To fix this problem of stress a stress reducing mouse has been created which tracks your stress. It does this through a sensor where your thumb rests and when it notices your stress levels rise it will send remedies on how to get rid of the stress and control it before it becomes a problem. Information sent to you is about exercising and how to work best to reduce the levels.
